WHEN SHOULD WE START CONSIDERING
FLOOD BARRIERS FOR OUR PROJECT?
A flood barrier project should begin in the initial design phase.
This way, the design professional can incorporate all the necessary
design criteria within the plans. This process gives the designer,
builder and all the relevant sub-contractors a great advantage in
bringing the project to completion on time and on budget.
The design of a flood proofed structure is more than a notation
of “flood barrier here” on the plans. The entire structure
must be designed to meet all applicable loads, and codes pertaining
to the Flood Proofing Non-residential Structures document. This
covers the walls, columns, slabs, sidewalks, architectural claddings,
and how each component attaches to one another. If these areas are
not addressed in advance, costly change-orders can be expected.
Flood proofing as an after-thought is always expensive.
Please contact us at any time. We have consulted on hundreds of
projects all over the world. We can answer any question. We are
the leaders in the flood-loss prevention industry.
Under normal circumstances a project takes 3-4 weeks for the permitting
process, 3-6 weeks for the manufacturing process and 1-2 weeks for
the installation. This assumption is based on an average size project
of 12- 4’-0” barriers, none greater than 12’-0”
in width. It is also assumed that all design considerations were
established within the plans prior to construction.
